Our Focus Scripture -“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3.
This post is the fifth of a five-part series discussing how we should view others in relation to ourselves. I started each with the above verse with a specific relationship added to the end. Also, I am not saying we should be viewing ourselves negatively, for our focus verse is not saying anything like that. We all need to see where our heart is in all our relationships. In this post I will be looking at our focus scripture as,
“With humility, count the unborn more significant than ourselves.”
I want to start this by stating It is important to understand that we are all human, independent people from conception, not from birth. Isaiah said to the people of Israel,
“Listen to Me, you islands, And pay attention, you peoples from afar. The LORD called Me from the womb; From the body of My mother He named Me.” Isaiah 49:1.
And later,
“And now says the LORD, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, To bring Jacob back to Him, so that Israel might be gathered to Him (For I am honored in the sight of the LORD, And My God is My strength), ” Isaiah 49:5.
Moreover, God told Jeremiah the following,
”Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5.
All these verses point to the truth that God formed us in the womb. He did not form some tissue which then became us. Also, this alludes to the fact He created us for a reason, forming us as we are to fulfill a specific purpose. So, if this is the case, how can we assent to the murder of these “individuals” through abortion or infanticide?
Our focus verse above says we are to put others ahead of ourselves, see others as more significant. And since the unborn, according to the scriptures, are people in the strictest sense, we must see them in this same way. We as Christians must stand up in defense of these little ones who are subjected to one of the most hideous and barbaric practices we know. What have they done to deserve death, and specifically this terrible type of death? They are subject to being cut to pieces, having their heads crushed, and other techniques that ultimately end with their loss of life. And during this process they suffer from incredible pain and agony. Would we wish this upon a child or adult who has already are born? How could we wish this upon those who have not yet been born? We as Christians need to speak out. We must support organizations who work to stop the practice of abortion and work to allow children to be born and live the life God called them to live. We must write to our government officials at all levels letting them know they must stop this atrocious practice. We must maintain our calling as lights in the darkness as we fight for the rights of those who, according to the world, have no rights.
I would ask you to join me in praying for the abolishment of abortions and the shutting down of organizations that work in this terrible industry. In my opinion, Planned Parenthood must be closed down. Women have other sources of medical care which do not include the killing of unborn children. There are many great pro-life organizations, and I want to encourage you to get involved with an organization and stand on the side of life. An organization called Equal Rights Institute works in educating people in how to argue for the unborn, which ultimately equips more and more people in the anti-abortion cause. Their website is http://equalrightsinstitute.com/.
Also, there are many pregnancy centers throughout the country who work with future parents to understand their choices and help them choose life. One here in the Acworth area is Cobb Pregnancy Resource Center, who I have supported for many years. It is a full-service center dedicated to changing the lives of women and men for the better. This is done by providing them with accurate information on parenting, adoption, STDs, and prenatal development. It provides education classes such as parenting skills, health and nutrition, abstinence, and moral development to help them be confident moving forward. They are also provided the opportunity to better their lives as well as their children with job skill preparation as well as various support groups. I encourage you to support this non-profit ministry in their mission of protecting the unborn. Their website is:

I encourage you to take a stand for life. Find a good group or organization that opposes abortion and believes in the rights of the unborn and support them, whether it be financially, in prayer, through volunteering, informing others about what they do, or if possible, all of the above. You will be doing a great service for the unborn and the cause of Christ. And remember, look upon the unborn as more significant than we are. Trust me, you will be blessed beyond measure.
